Why You Should Start Saving With Acorns Today

Anyone who knows me personally would know that I love all movies involving New York. Having said that, a lot of movies about New York involve Wall Street and investing. These movies were usually over the top and I began to associate investing with CEOs in skyscraper buildings and misunderstood it for another form of gambling. However after last year I was gifted an investment account app from my husband and then later I joined Acorns. I understand more about what it means and how easy it can be to start investing today. It’s not some magical unattainable unicorn, it’s real, it exists and I believe everyone should invest on themselves and their future.

What is Acorns?

Acorns is an American financial technology and financial services company based in Irvine, California that specializes in micro-investing and robo-investing. According to Fortune’s Impact 20 list for the year 2020, Acorns had 8.2 million customers and $3 billion in assets under management. Wikipedia

What I like:

It was literally only 5 dollars to start.

I can link to my bank account.

I can round up every purchase or customize it to the nearest dollar.

I can set it to automatic deposits or I can turn it off and choose manually when I’d like to invest.

The app is user friendly.

They recognize you as an investor.

What I dislike:

What I dislike:

It took forever to link my bank account. Seriously I tried and tried. Finally it worked. Can’t say if it’s an Acorns thing or my bank.

The 3 dollar monthly fee. As a new investor with a moderate portfolio, I find spending 36$ a year hasn’t been the best bargain but at least I have something saved.

So, why do I think you should join? As an entrepreneur who has no company to retire for, I use this. It’s really encouraged me to save more for myself rather than depending on my spouse’s retirement funds alone. It just feels so good in the back of my mind just knowing it’s there. So if you are an entrepreneur, stay at home mom, or have no company benefits, Acorns is a good place to start.
